UNION GOSPEL MISSION

A ministry that loves and cares for our homeless neighbors throughout the greater Seattle region.

UGM started in 1932 to feed and care for those suffering from the Great Depression. From a simple, borrowed soup kettle, they now love and care for thousands of homeless and hurting people each day.  UGM works to break the cycle of homelessness by identifying the root causes of homelessness and responding by meeting urgent physical needs, building relationships, and offering long-term recovery programs. Their hope is to restore dignity and help move people to healthy, thriving lives through the power of the Gospel.

Today, there are more than 12,000 homeless people in Seattle alone. Seattle is the 18th largest city in the U.S., yet it ranks 3rd in largest homeless population (behind New York and Los Angeles). This is a great humanitarian crisis in our city and we at New Life believe it is our responsibility to respond and help our neighbors who are in great need. Jesus says in Matthew 25:40 “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” As we partner with UGM in serving our homeless neighbors, we believe this is one of the ways in which we can live out our mission to expand God’s Kingdom throughout our city.
